Dominique Bollinger
Dominique Bollinger was born in Lyons, France, in 1950. He lives near Rome and has been making photographs for over 30 years.
During the 1980s, Bollinger travelled in the U.S and Mexico, photographing the landscape in color. In 1982, he won the “Prix Kodak de la critique photographique”in Paris, for a landscape series in colour from the region of “Cévennes” in France.
Since moving to Rome in 1986, the artist has worked almost exclusively in black and white, capturing the architecture and landscape of his adopted country.
Recent exhibitions include shows at Fotosphere Gallery, New York; Flo Peters Gallery, Hamburg, Germany; Gallery Benninger, Cologne, Germany; The international Photography Gathering, Aleppo, Syria.
His work has been published in UK, USA, Australia, Italy, and France. Among the permanent collections holding Bollinger’s work are Centre Pompidou and Bibliothèque Nationale; Paris; and numerous private collections in the U.S and Europe.
I always find it difficult to write about my work. I like to leave the images to speak for themselves, through silence.
I work in an intuitive way, as if I am searching for images like they were treasure.
Look always on the alert. The city and its surprises, nature and its elements are constant sources of inspiration and amazement.
Far from any formalism, my images give evidence only of an insatiable curiosity and a happiness to see.
