Richard Heeps
Richard Heeps has been photographing Americana in the UK and the USA for over ten years. His images capture the vibrancy of contemporary scenes inspired by the 1940‘s and 1950‘s and they pay tribute to mid-century modern life, as it is lived today.
The images featured, from the series Mans Ruin, adopt their title from the tattoo flash of American artist Sailor Jerry. It draws a selection of images together, which tells the story of the spirit and pursuit of the all American dream. The subject matter is stylish, glamorous and hedonistic. Portraits, interiors, images of burlesque, hot rods, dragsters and custom cars all feature in the collection. Heeps preserves and celebrates people and places, reluctant to change - at odds with modernity.
The work featured, is but summery of his ten-year personal documentary. One that has taken him from Santa Pod, a dragstrip in Bedfordshire England and Burlesque performers in Hollywood, California to Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire.
