Gaze, glimpse - a look at landscape
Ruth's training as a textile designer has been an influence much evident in her paintings. They are inspired as much by pattern, line and texture as by her love of the English landscape. From the South Downs of her childhood, through marshes to the sea are the places that feed into Ruth's work with perhaps the addition of a little strangeness and magic.
Working on board or canvas, Ruth loads the surface with oil paints and moves it around with brushes, combs and her hands looking to capture a particular light or the effect of the weather and seasons on the land
