Sian van Driel
Elements: air water
Clay is the earth.
With these large scale vessels Sian used clay to reflect silence, calmness, lightness and restraint in elliptical and asymmetrical forms.
The clay is hand coiled and burnished followed by minimal use of Japanese pigments and glazes which are fused into the clay body and fired to a temperature of 1260c.
When tapped, the vessels ring with different and beautiful sonorous tones.
