Monochrome 2021

Earth Forms

Sian has continued to develop her body of work she has named Earth Forms.  This time, she has made some larger free standing forms and pushed the clay even further and layering bone china with the coarse clays .

Working from the Earth with the Earth,

Sian observes the powerful forces that the Earth displays.

She finds beauty in imperfection throughout the natural world from weathered layered rocks to

fragmented stones washed up along the shoreline.

While making her new sculptural ceramic pieces, Sian experiences an intense energy flowing directly through her into the clay: elements of surprise are celebrated.

Materials used are coarse textured clays, porcelain and locally found sands and bone china.  All work is fired to 1260 and partially glazed.

Clay is the Earth and continues its journey.

Sian was born in the UK and spent her childhood in Canada and Italy.  She now lives and works at the centre of the South Downs National Park, West Sussex.

Sian graduated in 1982 with BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design & Ceramics at West Surrey College of Art and Design.  She has exhibited in Germany, Spain, Canada, Hungary, Japan and the UK.
