Stef Mitchell - Linear expression

Mono printing from nature, Stef makes prints and folded books which create an edge from which the organic accident and intentional mark can be read.

Framed work explores the book as object creating tension between the read and unread.  Walks, set aside, field edges, and the effects of weather patterns on plant growth are explored and documented using mono print working directly with plants.

In her current Drop, chance, lift pieces Stef uses plants that in some way have found her to make the covers.  The inside pages are made from prints from lifts of ink gathered over time in her studio, a record of time and process.

Organic exhibition

Hydrangea sphere - Wanting to break away from the pictorial confines of the rectangle in current work Stef has been exploring depth and frontality by working within a circle, building up layers through nature monoprint to create spatial spheres upon the flat surface.  Each hydrangea petal has been individually inked to create a variety of tones.

Entwines - Monoprinting from nature, these folded and entwined artists books create an edge from which the organic accident and intentional mark can be read.  Fixed and encased these pieces explore the book as object creating tension between the read and unread.
