Unearthed 2023

My work is the result of an honest relationship with the materials that I use.

Evidence of the hand and the texture of the clay are clearly visible in the pieces that I make.

Ancient tribal pottery is a key influence. My ceramics are coiled, a process which has remained unchanged for thousands of years. I also use a slab technique to create simple forms to decorate with incised pattern.

I want my ceramic pieces to appear to have been dug up from the earth and discovered from an ancient primitive time, while also sitting comfortably in the contemporary world.

My years of experience as a sculptor and prop maker for film, TV and theatre have led me to discover my own way of working as an artist.

Through having worked with so many different materials and techniques, I feel that I have found my own medium and method in clay.
