Two Folde's practice draws influence from the early sketchbooks and motifs of Amanda Sumpter - Ben Sumpter's mother, who is a stone carver & painter. Abstract shapes and domestic motifs are a crucial part of their works. Exploring the relationship between objects and space, a dialogue is created between the two.

 

In their painted works tensions are running through the cloth, held by stitched lines. Areas are painted, dissected, stitched and the process repeated. There is an energy to the process and a movement that goes into these pieces which contrasts to the outcome. Stillness is emulated and yet each piece holds onto this tautness.
