Alex Pole

display and function 2026

“Ever since I can remember I have had a fascination in minerals and especially metals. As a child I sat watching my mother at her jewellers bench as she made beautiful silver necklaces and earrings – my toys being a wooden box of semi-precious gem stones…”

Alex took up metal work in 1985 at art school but believes he really became a true blacksmith after he attended a tool making course in Sweden in 2013 where he met his friend and master Fredrik Thelin . There he discovered a love of knife and axe making and has been honing his skills from then on.

Alex currently runs a contemporary blacksmithing workshop where the focus is on using traditional techniques combined with modern machinery to produce the highest quality handmade cutlery and tableware. He has developed ranges for some of the best and most exclusive restaurants around the world as well as teaching chefs how to make their own knives and running food events at the forge throughout the year.

‘THE SPACES BETWEEN’ is a series of hot forged, stainless steel table pieces that can be seen as a whole or as unique individual pieces – each of which can be used or simply viewed as an object that lies somewhere between craft and sculpture.

These textures are created using a variety of different hammers and tools , each one completely unique . It is the borderline between each hammer strike that fascinates him the most.
