sculptural ceramics 2026

This collection comes from a lengthy, intense and uniquely intimate period while Annabel cared for her mother, reacting to the responsibility of holding her mother’s life in her hands and documenting the daily challenges, laughter and tears, - and now rebuilding a future.

The sculptures carry words, references to music, phrases and Asemic writing, a way of conveying a hint to language and meaning in a calligraphic, decorative and gestural way. Naturally the brain wants to make sense of and recognise marks and imagery. These repeated words and calligraphic gestures allude to musical and ‘semantic satiation’, the point at which the brain no longer understands a word repeated to the point of nonsense, - a direct reference to the diminishing language and comprehension of Annabel’s mother, whilst provoking, triggering and eliciting emotional responses, memories and musical references.

Designed to be handled and interacted with, they hold ceramic beads that make a gentle sound when handled.
