David Lemm

constructed 2025

David Lemm is a visual artist based in Edinburgh. He constructs works in response to encountered environments, moments and materials, often working directly with collected information, imagery and artefacts to explore site specific narratives or suggest speculative possibilities.

David studied animation at DJCAD, Dundee and his practice has evolved with an interdisciplinary approach informed by numerous residencies, including the Jon Schueler Scholarship, Skye (2017). Recent projects include a cultural exchange between Norwegian and Scottish artists ((w)ORD, 2019-24) and public art commissions in Lerwick, Edinburgh and Royal Brompton Hospital, London. His work is held in various private collections and his Mapping Eigg series (2014) was recently acquired by the V&A Dundee Scottish Design Galleries.

His recent exhibition Fastenings at Moray Art Centre (2023) focused on Findhorn and the erosion of the Moray coastline. The works featured in CONSTRUCTED are a continuation of this initial exploration. Beginning with walks around the coast, David collected an archive of imagery and objects. From this library of remnants, he constructed layered assemblages which combine screen printing, drawing, wooden components and materials found on site. These aim to highlight overlooked aspects of the topography and present the landscape as an transient entanglement of designed and organic systems.
