Elaine Bolt

Gaze 2021

Find, make 2021

Elaine Bolt is a ceramic artist based in East Sussex, working with clay and mixed media, creating works and compositions guided by a sense of narrative and steeped in the context of her local surroundings.

Her current work is inspired by the colours and tones of the Sussex landscape, where the flint and chalk fields of the South Downs provide a distinctive backdrop. Her vessels and compositions make use of this restricted palette of deep flint blacks, through soft grey, stony glazes to creamy, chalk white; with added materials that offset the simplicity of the thrown form.

Elaine has an MA in Ceramics and is an alumni of the Crafts Council’s Hothouse talent development programme. She has worked as a Lecturer on the BA Ceramics course at the University of Brighton. Working and teaching from her studio in Sussex, Elaine has exhibited across the UK, and internationally.
