Hopewood Baskets
display and function 2026
Hopewood is an art & craft studio collective established in 2021 by Sarah Loughlin and Marcus Wootton. Rooted in traditional basketry techniques, their practice spans woven sculptural vessels and contemporary functional baskets, all made in their studio in the Wyre Forest, UK.
Sarah Loughlin’s new series of bottle-formed sculptures explores themes of containment and preservation. At once protective and restrictive, the woven forms reflect on the human desire to contain what is fragile—whether food, time, memory, or emotion. Through these works, basketry becomes a language for exploring what we choose to keep safe, what we conceal, and what it means to preserve something before it slips away.
Marcus Wootton’s collection of oval baskets for this exhibition are rooted in sustainability, longevity, and careful craftsmanship. His work is designed to be both functional and enduring—pieces made with intention, integrity, and a respect for the material. Specialising in the traditional ‘hoop and scallom’ technique, Wootton produces strong, purposeful forms that balance utility with refined detail. Working with willow using hand tools and traditional methods, he honours the lineage of craftspeople who came before him while creating work suited to contemporary life.
