Kate’s warp-faced woven panels are small-scale and intricately worked with very fine linen weft threads on linen warps.

A fundamental influence for these works originates from her career as a textile and upholstery conservator. The skills acquired during this profession which inform Kate’s work include the conservation of historic tapestries, mount making and yarn dyeing to exacting standards.

Experimentation of tapestry weaving techniques; including the incorporation of exposed warps within structures, manipulation of warp orientation to enhance design elements, and creation of subtle colour and tonal variations to weft threads prior to weaving, is evident in her work.

‘Echo series #l - #Vl’, a set of six miniature panels, forms part of larger body of work which incorporate the use of graphite. This ongoing work is a result of experimentations with graphite and beeswax application to lengths of warp threads prior to weaving. The main aim of the graphite integration is to introduce the characteristic qualities of pencil and charcoal drawings into her woven structures, as is evident in ‘Echo series #l - #Vl’.
