This series of ceramic wall pieces, ‘Urbanesque’ explores the relationship between ceramics and architecture. They do not describe or emulate any particular buildings but rather try to evoke the mood and atmosphere of a particular type of urban environment. Every piece has a similar starting point and as the work develops it takes on its own unique personality, with geometric breaks and changes in relief that create contrast and depth.

 

Each piece is influenced by earlier work which feeds the process of visual evaluation and decision making. The constant exploration of material, process, form and surface has always been a vital part of Mike's work.
