Abstract aesthetic 2025

Sian’s body of work speaks in the language of stillness - each piece a quiet meditation in material, space, and time. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese aesthetic, Sian use of handmade paper and sumi ink invites a tactile intimacy, while the restrained colour palette - imbued with natural pigments, chalks, and watercolour washes - creates a depth that feels geological, elemental. The presence of gold leaf is not ornamental, but reverent: a glimmering trace that echoes the philosophy of wabi-sabi - beauty in impermanence, in the worn and weathered.

The absence of a focal point gives space to the viewer’s breath, mirroring the structure of a haiku or the rhythm of zazen. The layered surfaces, sometimes scored or delicately torn, evoke landscapes seen through fog or memory - etched by time. These works do not shout; they invite. They are not about seeing, but about perceiving, sensing - the weight of silence, the passage of time, the light brushing across textured paper.
